Investment Game
Investment Game is a real-time stock market simulator allowing players to manage their portfolios by making virtual investments on the 6 Stock Exchanges: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Sweden, and Finland . After a simple free registration, the participant can trade securities online, with the quotes taken directly from the Reuters database. The prices and order positions are updated every 5 minutes.
The players from more than 10 countries compete for prizes awarded for the best performance of their portfolio. The event is organized by the Investment Fund Board elected annually from SSE Riga students. Investment Game was introduced in 1997 by the first Board of the Investment Fund. The original and durable idea of the game was to provide an opportunity to get a hands-on approach on the stock trading without taking any tangible risk. Flourishing start has been followed by one or two rounds of Investment Game held annually, each of them lasting for approximately 3 months. The number of players has changed from average of 500 in 1997 to around 9500 in 2008. Periodical event demonstrates gradual improvements and contains advancements in terms of user interface, choice of markets, rules of the game, etc. This year, the Game continues its successful 11-year history, developing and adjusting to become yet more user-friendly and bug-proof: the platform, website design, and interface have been polished; share quotes have been revised and updated. In addition, we revised the structure of the Game making it more challenging and interesting by dividing the Game into 2 rounds. The first round will be open for registration for everyone, whereas in the second round only 500 best portfolio owners will compete for the main prizes. Previous year the winner of the first round got 500 Euro in cash (the 2nd place - 300 Euro; the 3rd place - 200 Euro) and the winner of the second round and, hence, the winner of the Investment Game 2008 got 1000 Euro in cash (the 2nd place - 300 Euro; teh 3rd place - 200 Euro) from our general partner Hansabanka and an ounce of pure gold from Tavex. Moreover, we introduced weekly prizes for most weekly gainers. This year we are planning to increase the overall prize pool, which will be anounced later.
